My teaching philosophy
I believe that Physical Education (PE) is essential for educating the whole student, body, mind, and character, while also being immensely inspiring for lifelong wellness. The purpose of PE is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to lead active, healthy lives. In my high school PE classes, students will do more than exercise; they'll learn teamwork, perseverance, respect, and self-discipline, which are values that enrich their academic and personal lives. I will strive to create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where every learner is challenged and supported. Understanding that students develop and learn differently, I intend to differentiate instruction and provide developmentally appropriate activities so each individual can succeed and grow. For example, in a diverse urban classroom, there will be modifications of games and the use of adaptive equipment so that all students, including those with disabilities, can participate meaningfully. My curriculum will integrate cooperative team sports, individual fitness challenges, and health education, offering each student an opportunity to find activities they enjoy while building physical literacy and healthy habits.
As a reflective educator, I'll continuously assess my teaching and embrace professional development to refine my practice. I hold myself to high ethical standards, modeling fairness, sportsmanship, and respect for all students. I hope to take on a collaborative leadership role in the school community: working with colleagues and administration to integrate movement into other subjects, communicating with families about student progress and wellness goals, and partnering with community programs to expand my students’ opportunities. Through these efforts, I aim to create a strong network of support that empowers every student to reach their full potential. My teaching philosophy is student-centered, compassionate, and purposeful. I am committed to motivating each student to discover their strengths and carry the benefits of physical education into a lifetime of wellness.
